NISKAYUNA – Owner Briana Lin cut the ribbon Wednesday on her new restaurant in Niskayuna, Volcano Asian BBQ & Hot Pot.

The new restaurant, located at 2309 Nott Street Extension in Niskayuna, brings a unique dining experience to the Capital Region, Lin said. Customers select a variety of meats, seafoods, vegetables, noodles and more, they then cook their items in their hot pot of their selected flavor of broth. Each table is also equipped with a space for cooking Asian BBQ in the center of the table.

“I’m really thankful for the support from the Niskayuna community and the Schenectady community,” Lin said.

The restaurant is open from 2 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon until 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon until 9:30 p.m. on Sundays. Lin recommends that customers make reservations.

The new restaurant is the first of its kind in the Capital Region, offering diners the opportunity to have hot pot and Asian barbecue at the same table, Lin said.

The new restaurant is Lin’s sixth Asian restaurant in the Capital Region. She hopes everyone will come and try the unique style of restaurant.

Lin cut the ribbon of her newest restaurant with the support of local leaders and representatives. She also passed out confetti cannons which went off when she cut the ribbon.

“I’m so thrilled to have Volcano Asian BBQ Hot Pot here,” said Niskayuna Town Supervisor, Jamie Puccioni. “It’s a great additional business for Niskayuna.”

The restaurant also has a number of unique features and decorations, part of the ceiling is made to look like the night sky, with light up stars and constellations, and a large corner of the restaurant features screens that can display a variety of different images and videos, at the grand opening the screens showed an underwater habitat with fish and turtles that swam along the walls.

“[Lin is] the type of entrepreneur that does incredible things for our community,” said Sen. Jim Tedisco, R-Glenville.

Lin has been in the restaurant business for 10 years. Volcano Asian BBQ and Hot Pot is her sixth restaurant in the Capital Region. She had received suggestions from customers and acquaintances to open a restaurant in Niskayuna.

The 5,000-square-foot restaurant can seat 150 people. The site was formerly the location of Thai Thai Bistro and Smashburger. The restaurant has about 25 staff members.

The Niskayuna Planning and Zoning Commission approved the Volcano Asian BBQ and Hot Pot site plan last fall.
